Recently a serial killer has been arrested in Madhya Pradesh, who kills the sleeping watchmen at night. By the way, the term serial killer appears in the stories most commonly heard in American pop culture. But there have been many shocking ‘serial killer’ cases in India too. The case of Madhya Pradesh is a new case in this episode.

An 18-year-old school dropout accused of killing four security guards in six days in the cities of Sagar and Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh was a student and lived alone. The serial killer is revealed to be Shivprasad Dhurve alias Shiva and the police arrested him on Friday. He lives in Kekra village of Sagar district. According to the police, he targeted the sleeping security guards and killed three in Sagar district and one in Bhopal. Let us know the cases of some such shocking serial killers of India-

‘Cyanide Mohan’: The man who used to poison women by giving birth control pills

Mohan Kumar is popularly known as ‘Cyanide Mohan’. He used to ask women to take the contraceptive pill after sex and then give them cyanide instead. He killed about 20 women between 2005 and 2009. He was sentenced to death in December 2013.

‘Nithari case’

The Noida Serial Murder (also known as the Nithari Nithari case) took place in 2005 and 2006 at the house of businessman Moninder Singh Pandher in Nithari village, near Sector-31, Noida.

Moninder Singh was found guilty in two of the 5 cases brought against him. In addition, his servant Surinder Koli, who accompanies him in the murders, was found guilty in ten of the sixteen cases brought against him. Both of them were sentenced to death. The case pertained to kidnapping and killing of children and allegedly eating meat.

Charles Sobhraj: ‘Bikini killer’

Charles Sobhraj killed 12 people in different countries of South Asia including India between 1975 and 1976. Sobhraj not only used to kill his victims but also lived a lavish lifestyle by looting their money. She was dubbed the “bikini killer” after the bodies of two women in bikinis were found. Sobhraj was captured in India and imprisoned from 1976 to 1997. However, he escaped from prison in the middle and was arrested in Nepal in 2004. He is currently serving a life sentence.

‘Butcher of Delhi’ taunting police

Recently, a new crime series brought attention to the serial killer of Delhi, who used to cut the victim’s body into several parts and throw it in different parts of the capital. This serial killer named Chandrakant Jha used to challenge the police to catch him before committing any new murders and used to taunt them.

Chandrakant Jha was a migrant laborer from Bihar, who committed the first murder in 1998. In this case, he was released on the basis of evidence after being in jail for 4 years. He then killed and dismembered 18 people in West Delhi between 1998 and 2007.

He befriended migrant laborers from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh and helped them find small jobs. Later, he used to quarrel with them over petty things like stealing, lying or eating meat and used to strangle them to death. In February 2013, he was found guilty of three counts of murder and received two death sentences as well as life imprisonment till death. In January 2016, his death sentence was commuted to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.

Raman Raghav or ‘Jack Reaper of India’

Raman Raghav is also known as ‘Pisco Raman’. It killed 23 people living in Mumbai’s slums in the 1960s. He used to kill people painfully by beating them with sticks. After his arrest, it was found that he had a mental illness called schizophrenia. In 1995, he died of kidney failure.
