Washington: There are many islands in the world on which no human lives. But no human wants to live on a coral island named Bikini Atoll located in the Pacific Ocean. This is because it is the most nuclear contaminated island in the world. Every person who goes to this island has directly reached the mouth of death. The reason for this is that it was used by the US as a testing site for the atomic bomb.

World War II ended when atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan. But after this America did many more nuclear tests. Bikini Atoll is an island located in the Marshall Islands-Chain. It is an area of two square km. This island was the best for the army. A report by the Natural Resources Defense Council said the area was far from shipping lanes. From here the base was just 1600 km away from where the bombers could take off.

America carried out 23 nuclear blasts
The population of this island was very less. Only 167 people lived here. The US Army sent these people from here to another place saying that these tests are very important to prevent war in the future. Initially people were not ready to leave from here, but later the leader of these people King Juda said that we will go from here, everything is in the hands of God. The United States conducted 23 nuclear tests in Bikini Atoll from 1946 to 1958, 20 of which were hydrogen bombs.

The people of the island were allowed to come back
In one of these tests, there was also a bomb thousand times stronger than the bomb that destroyed Nagasaki. Stanford University professor Stephen Palumby, who visited the atoll island in 2017, estimated that debris from the bombings may have sprung up more than 65 km into the sky. In the 1960s, the US Atomic Energy Commission declared Bikini Atoll habitable and allowed some of the island’s older people to return. But this move proved to be dangerous.

not worth going back
A decade later, this decision was reversed. Because in the study it was found that the level of cesium-137 in the body of people who came back here has increased by 75 percent. In simple language, his body was exposed to radiation. Caesium can cause a variety of diseases in the body, which can lead to the death of a person. Scientists say that this is still not a good option to return. The island was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010 to show the outbreak of the nuclear bomb.
